A good sailor's woolwork or 'woolie' of a three masted frigate, sailing on calm sea under moody skies and with cliffs and a lighthouse in the background.
British, mid 19th century.
A calm image on a sea with some chop and wind. The sails have been padded to give a 'full' effect. The colours are very good with little fading.
Originally backed with board, this woolie has been remounted on a stretcher. The enabled more of the woolwork to show and not be hidden under the frame.
British Folk Art School mid 19th century.
