A good little unusual Victorian embroidery worked in wire and bullion stitches, depicting the symbols for Faith Hope and Charity

Late 19th century.

 

A few loose threads and missing sequins, but otherwise in good bright condition.

 

In a plain narrow period black frame.

Faith Hope and Charity (or Love)

A common motif in Christian art it has two attributions:

 

The three great virtues that the New Testament calls for in Christians. According to the Apostle Paul, “Now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”
