Naive 19th century French Silkwork of a Sailing Ship

A pretty and naive French silkwork of a ship flying French naval flags.  Very pretty and unsophisticated, delicately stitched in a naive manner in brightly coloured silks, which are still overall in very good condition.

The base is a fine linen which has mellowed to a lovely rich tan colour. There is an historic snag in the linen top right hand area.

Mid 19th century. On original stretcher. In later oak frame and slip. Under glass.

Frame. 17.75” x 15”       44cms x 38cms

Sight: 14.25” x 11.5”     36cms x 29cm.
