A large and charming naive oil on canvas of a dark bay horse in his stable, with hay racks in the arched bays, chickens pecking about, and a rather strange post
finial to the bay. Late 19th/early 20th century.
There is an inscription on the wooden pail bottom right, from which I can only decipher: Sc TT, Illingw ? This could possibly be Illingworth in
Calderdale, West Yorkshire, near to Halifax.
The stretcher for the painting appears to be hand made, being of solid nailed construction rather than wedge construction of professionally made
stretchers.
In original hand painted faux rosewood frame and slip.
