Naive Watercolour of a Boy with Gun

A lovely little watercolour of a little boy, probably around the age of 7 or 8, before his age for 'breeching', looking very grown up and determined, holding a gun, with feet firmly planted on the ground.

Dating to the early part of the 19th century, this little boy has a girls hair style with kiss curls and is wearing a dress with pantaloons with a nice tartan waistband.  Maybe this locates him in Scotland, but there is no other clue given.

Particularly charming is the chicken with her chicks by the gate.

Lovely unfaded colours.  The image has been mounted on card and framed in its original rosewood frame, slip, glass and hanging loop.
