Nils Hans Andersen, oil on canvas, figures skating in a snowy landscape, early 20th century

Nils Hans Andersen 1850-1932 was a minor Danish royal with family connections to Queen Victoria.  He spent much of his life in England and had been granted a grace and favour apartment in Hampton Court.

Much of his output has a naive, romantic even gothic feel: rustic cottages, ruins, ghostly atmosphere, gaunt trees.

This snowy scene, oil on canvas, with distinct perspective, and figures walking in the snow and others skating is a nice example of his output.

Relined and presented in its original ebonised frame.
