An absolutely charming caricature watercolour sketch of a chubby faced girl in a voluminous dress.
On the reverse, also glazed, in an oval band with winged cherub, is inscribed:
"I'll lay you a wager, I know to a line,
The figure and face of your fair Valentine!
Early 19th century. Lovely simple lines, with gold coloured earrings, button and buckle still fresh. It is framed in its original maple frame, slip, glass and hanging
I believe this to be a home made Valentines card from the mid 19th century, which has subsequently been mounted on either side of a cream board, and framed in a period frame.
Sight: 4.25" x 5.25" 11 x 13cm
