Large chip carved washing bat early 19thc or earlier
A beautifully sharply cut chip carved washing bat, of lovely rich colour and patina, showing little or no signs of use. Very heavy and possibly elm which is a strong and durable wood, resistant
Possibly from the north of England or Scandinavia, from the days of communal washing.
Possibly given as a love token. Lucky Girl!!!
Traces of original paintwork can be seen on the handle. A historic loss at the top back shown on photo.
