A large and finely worked 19th century silkwork of a young boy gathering wood in a cold and frozen landscape.
Very good condition and bright colours, but slight age related deterioration to the painted silk face.
The wood gatherer was a popular theme in Victorian art, where the hardships of life of poor country people were sentimentalised.
Nailed onto its original stretcher and in a period frame under glass.
