French/Swiss primitive school: 'La Creation du Monde' late 1930's
A large and charming naive primitive watercolour depicting The Creation of the World.
A highly personalised view of the 6th Day of Creation, as written in Genesis. "On this day God also created man and woman (Adam and Eve) in his own image to
commune with him. He blessed them and gave them every creature and the whole earth to rule over, care for and cultivate."
A newspaper sheet, found backing the painting, with a date of June 1939, makes this painting very poignant. The newspaper sheet being full of
details of the upcoming conflicts that led to WW2. Newspaper accompanies this painting.
