An interesting townscape, probably early 19th century Ireland,  with the town crier, a solider in full uniform with his wife, towns folk going about their business and crippled men on sticks, probably injured in war.

 

Signed J. Thompson, on the wheelbarrow lower right, in a dark oak frame with gold slip.

On the reverse an old label from Combridge Art Dealers, Duke Street, Dublin, and an old typed label which reads:

 

‘Circa 1820 rare and interesting Genre scene in the naive manner – highlighting a uniformed officer of the British Army and surrounding rural townsfolk, possibly in Georgian Ireland.
